For the last 20 years we’ve spent, most of my career at extension, working on tieing down loads, hooking up trailers to trucks, what about the tractor hits. Lots of stuff to do with transportation. And from all of those talks then you begin to get lots of questions. “What about the chain or the strap we use to pull out a stuck tractor, a stuck truck, a stuck trailer?” So what we did was, we assembled a team of experts and we put it together to develop this brand new publication, the latest in our extension series, called PPP-98. It is called Extracting Stuck Equipment. What we tried to do was capture those questions that people were asking. And the bottom line to the publication is if you’re going to use chain don’t jerk it. Bottom line is know the ratings of your chains. It’s knowing something about when you’re out there, take 5 minutes to look at the whole situation instead of just getting in the truck- jumping in, gunning it and breaking the chain. So we are asking people just to slow down, take 5 or 10 extra minutes, take a breather read through and look at the area that you’re at before you get in there because as your reading the publication there’s are a lot of people who have been seriously hurt or killed doing an extraction. And we want you to be safe out there when you are trying to help yourself or neighbor.
