Everyone is lovable. Hi, I’m Bastiaan.
-And I’m Nellie. And welcome…
-In our Drugslab. Every week we try a drug
so you don’t have to… and to show what it does
to our body. If you’re curious about a drug,
leave a comment and maybe we’ll try it. Flip and Dos did so too,
and they want to see Nellie on Ecstasy. This is our Ecstasy.
It comes in all shapes, forms and sizes. Ours is pink with a small star on it,
and a breakoff notch in the back. Pills may look the same,
but always have them tested. That way you know it’s pure
and how much active substance it contains. Our first episode was about Ecstasy.
Rens took it that time. I did MDMA once, as did you.
And now you get to do Ecstasy. It’s festival season
and many people are popping pills. A lot of people think Ecstasy
is different from MDMA. MDMA are crystals, Ecstasy is a pill,
but the active substance is the same. Many people also think Ecstasy is
MDMA with speed, but that’s not true. The belt is on.
My temperature and heart rate. This pill contains 149 mg
of active substance. You’re taking half,
which is about 75 mg. There is no safe dosage when it comes
to drugs, because it always carries risks. But a guideline with Ecstasy is 1-1.5 mg
of active substance per kilo of body weight. So for me 75 mg will be a nice trip. Exactly half. Here’s to the festival season. Ecstasy stimulates
certain neurotransmitters… such as serotonin,
which makes you feel happy. And adrenaline,
which makes you active. And that together
makes for a nice trip. It’s been a half hour. Your pupils are big.
-Yes, I can feel it. And your hands are cold.
-Yes, and a bit clammy. My ears are a bit blocked.
I feel it coming up very slowly. Nice?
-I feel a tingling. A bit here in my tummy. It’s a very strange feeling,
very hard to describe. It’s really empathetic,
like I’m some kind of cloud. It’s overwhelming too. Such a strange
feeling. Everything is very soft. Your eyes are moving from side to side. Hey, I have a surprise for you. I’ve arranged tickets to the Drugslab
Festival. So that’s where we’re going. Do you look forward to that?
-Yes. Okay, let’s get doffed up.
-Ready. And then we’ll go. We got changed,
but we’re not ready yet. Before we hit the festival,
we have to put on some make-up. I notice that I have good focus. I can tell. I see those bulging eyes.
-I know. Your jaws keep moving like this.
And you seem to have difficulty swallowing. Yes, though my mouth isn’t dry.
I feel a kind of tension. Yes, those are typical characteristics
of Ecstasy. You get a really warm feeling
for the people around you. And you feel like talking a lot, right?
-Yes, and everyone is lovable. I wonder what it feels like
when I touch your face with this brush. It feels nice. You can tell
your body is out of whack. Because I’m cold and warm
at the same time. This is fun, isn’t it? Is that beautiful or what?
-Yes. Like it?
-Oh, my pupils. Sick, right? Shall we go?
-Yes. My temperature has gone up a degree,
but I actually feel very cold. People think that if it goes wrong,
it’s because of bad pills. But often it’s due to overheating. I’m inclined to put on a lot of clothing,
but at a club it’s really hot, of course. Make sure to cool off occasionally. Your jaws are very active, I see,
so I have chewing gum for you. Otherwise your mouth
will be all sore tomorrow. We’re in the Balkan tent.
How do you like this? It’s fun. I feel like moving and walking like this,
so this music is perfect for that. Shall we go to another tent?
Okay, come. The music really does a lot with you. If you don’t feel good at some point,
just find some nice people to talk to. This is very mellow. It’s chill,
but your energy drops immediately. It makes you feel lazy. This is the techno tent. This is great, isn’t it? I feel like doing this.
-Is that nice? Yes, funny.
Funny to touch your own body. That such a tiny pill
can have so much effect. We need a bit more energy.
-Yes, right? I feel like closing my eyes.
-Go ahead. That’s why you must take a break
now and then. You don’t realise it. I’m not even out of breath.
-You’re not tired? No, but my temperature
and heart rate are way up. I’m exhausted.
-You really have to remind yourself: Sit down for a minute. I think it’s time to chill out.
-Me too. So here I have some magic sand.
-Nice. Touch it with your hands. It’s just nice to go like this.
-Be my guest. It feels really funny. It comes in waves. One moment I feel like
doing things, but it’s also fine the way it is. I can imagine that doing this at a party,
the next time you’ll think: I’ll do it again. People don’t enjoy themselves at parties
without it anymore, so they’ll keep doing it. But the more you take it, the less you get
the loving effect, just the stimulating effect. So people will then take more
to get that love effect after all. And that’s dangerous.
-Yes. Another risk is serotonin syndrome,
which is unpredictable and can be lethal. It is caused by too much Ecstasy
and by combining it with other drugs… or with medicines, such as MAO inhibitors
or other anti-depressants. Now it’s fun, but it can also go badly.
It can lead to psychoses… panic attacks or depressions, which
are hard to treat and very unpleasant. I’m reacting very well to this. But you also hear that people see
someone wearing glasses or a hat… but when they look closer
they’re like: huh? So if you take a lot,
you seem to start hallucinating a little. Glasses and a hat sound okay,
but you can also come to see nasty things. And that can cause you to panic. Did you monitor your water intake
during this episode? I notice that I’m really thirsty,
but I’m controlling myself. People hear that you can get overheated
from Ecstasy and will decide to drink a lot. But the antidiuretic hormone prevents you
from peeing, so your body retains the water. It will enter your bloodstream
and go to your brain. Your skull can’t get rid of it.
That’s the big danger. So don’t drink more
than 1-2 glasses of water per hour. Do you feel any difference
between Ecstasy and MDMA? I have the idea that the last time
it was more intense all at once. While now it all stays
more or less the same. But maybe I’m in a different
mental state today. I really liked this festival.
-Me too. Though I am tired now. Shall we go home?
-Yes. We’re back home again.
I’ve changed into my chill suit. And what am I eating? Broccoli. I felt hungry and thought
I should eat some vitamins. I must say I came down very nice and
easy. I didn’t feel anxious or anything. I did have a lot of lower back pain.
So I went and got an hour-long massage. That was one of the best ideas
I’ve ever had. That was so nice. Then I watched a movie, ate well,
lots of fruit… lots of vegetables.
I think that’s very good. I feel fine mentally… but I do notice
that physically I’m very tired. This is something very special
to do about once in six months. But not too often,
that’s way too intense. It’s been four days. Some people
suffer from ‘suicide Tuesday’ then. Since your serotonin level is depleted,
you may feel a bit down or depressed. I ate lots of vitamins
and kept doing fun things. And because I didn’t take that much,
the after-effects aren’t so bad. I feel fine. I have a slight headache,
but that’s all, fortunately. If you want to see more of us
