Vincent Pol University in Lublin operates based on the accreditation from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education from 12 July, 2000 but it’s history reaches further into the past It is a perfect place for people who want to realise their professional goals and follow their dreams The university offers education on different levels: first cycle, second cycle and MSC Long Cycle “20 years has passed. Time to celebrate!” I chose this university because it allows me to combine my passion with proper education You can use your spare time to come here study and develop yourself. I believe that VPU is very friendly one of the nicest of all universities. Our university was created, one might say, by accident but accidents can prove to be very important At first, this used to be collection of private schools that used to train customs officers. At the time, Poland was about to enter the EU We had a deal with the general customs office and based on that we were preparing officers for the entire eastern border We trained over 2,5 thousand of them here in Lublin It is known the the customs officer is the oldest male occupation in the world but it not a very popular position therefore we stopped training customs officers and focused on other programmes. We created two high-schools: general education and economics-profiled and a post-highschool study, in total 3 institutions. We couldn’t fit into our old buildings any more and we decided that we need a new campus, which was erected really fast It was created in 9 months, as, like I always say, all best things in life are. The building was officially usable in 1999. A year later, we got a permit to establish a higher education facility. which, at first, offered education in two programmes: Agro-Business and Agricultural Marketing but also, almost from the very beggining we were among the first to have English Philology We were the first in Lublin to introduce Tourism & Hospitality on a higher education level. then, Physiotherapy And these were the poster programmes that we focused on. When the University reached over a 1000 students that was when out true prosperity began We invested in better equipment and prepare new, attractive programmes with a marketable future. Since then, the university developed enough that we now have a permit from the Ministry for 14 different programmes Including two Master’s Degree programmes Physiotherapy and International Tourism We also have post-graduate programmes available and currently, over 4500 students study at our University. The classes take place in a modern, 4-floor campus with about 4000 sq meters of space VPU has a lecture hall that can fit in 200 people laboratories of physical therapy, kinesiotherapy, cosmetology, biomechanics, massage, anatomy, workshops of nursing skills, chemical labs, classes designed for tourism, hospitality, gastronomy, geography and computer science labs. “Is everything still ok?” “When you apply all of it, leave it for 15 minutes” The one programme of ours with the most future, in my opinion, would be Beauty Science It’s the 21st century’s programme, the programme that will get you hired. I have learned about this programme from my sister And I think I would like to pursue a career in Cosmetology in the future I chose this University because I heard that there is a lot of practical training I am expecting to get a lot of real, practical skills I searched for a right programme for me for a long time and I decided that Beauty Science will become very popular and demanded in the future. Practical training is our priority We teach the important skills, necessary for practising this professions. We teach care cosmetology, beauty cosmetology Procedures for face, body, hands, feet This is our plan. A student, after graduating from VPU they already know what to do finding work won’t be a problem for them I want to open my own beauty salon Specialise in permanent make-up A cosmetologist on the contemporary beauty market is able to do a lot of interesting things Of course, they can work at a salon but also, in every institution dealing with cosmetic chemistry chemical composition of cosmetics, visage, stylisation All of these elements can be a part of our graduate’s career. Therefore, I recommend it a lot! Our school keeps on developing We have more and more international students not to mention our neighbours from Ukraine we still have students from over 50 countries from all around the globe And this number is still growing Our post-graduate studies are also growing strong which are a big part of VPU, it’s almost 2000 students This is a considerable number. It’s not easy to obtain international students Poland is far behind in terms of internationalisation of education It is less than 4% Universities in England or Germany can have up to 50% internationalisation. Internationalisation translates into improvement of the level of education It raises the demands when it comes to the staff and forces us to create an environment that will make students from abroad want to study here. Our expansion in Africa is growing due to a deal with Mount Kenya University and it caused over 150 students from Africa to start their education at VPU this year. But we also have numerous students from Asia: India, Vietnam, Thailand but also from the U.S.A. or Canada Our level of internationalisation is among the best in Poland all our programmes are in their respective TOP 12 when it comes to internationalisation We’re number 1 in Physiotherapy among both public and private universities in Poland We’re number 3 in Tourism & Hospitality Number 6 in Beauty Science Number 12 in English Philology We’re actively participating in all actions of the Ministry of Higher Education that attempt to raise the number of international students in Poland We’re involved with National Agency of Academic Exchange We participate in educational fairs all over the world Our recruitment crew spends almost the entire academic year abroad One of the prized achievements of VPU is their Academic Physiotherapy Center, open since 2010 The center, equipped with the most modern equipment is primarily used for lectures and practical training of students but the center also helps the citizens of Lublin and nearby towns providing services from the areas of physiotherapy and rehabilitation both, according to the deal with the National Health Fund and commercially. We rehabilitate people both as a public health institution and privately but we also do a lot of training with our students We have students from all over the world Here in the Physiotherapy Center they can get hands on experience We introduced Nursing last year. We are a part of a very good EU programme for supporting nurses that allows the best 30 students to receive a 800zł/month scholarship This is a decent amount of money especially that this scholarship can stack up with all the other kinds of scholarships available at VPU. These don’t exclude one another. This is the one programme that we we put a lot effort into, as we simultaneously opened an English programme for it. We’re now thinking about the Master’s Degree So that the nurses that will obtain their diplomas in a year could continue their education right here Beauty Science is another example of really well developed programme We are also considering a Master’s Degree programme for it. I believe that even this year we will forward a request for permission to do both of those. We’re also considering construction of a medical simulation lab because if we have a Nursing programme they should involve practical training in a realistic environment. We’re currently trying to plan this endeavour. “We will start from galvanisation of lower and upper limbs” “Please divide yourselves into pairs” Me studying physiotherapy was a complete accident. My friend came to study here recommended me this programme, and it turned out really great. University, lecturers, students, all great. I would really like to start my own business one day. I would love to help children. We shall see how it goes but I’m hoping for the best Our mission, from the very start was to bring to Lublin some of the more niche programmes that were absent among universities here. We were the first to introduce a degree in Tourism & Hospitality in Lublin and only 10 years later, MCSU opened their own. We introduced Physiotherapy, basing on the staff of Jagellionian University And the Medical University in Lublin introduced Physiotherapy also approximately 10 years after that We’re still the biggest Physiotherapy departament in the country I chose this university mostly because of it allowing us to combine education and sport. I chose Physiotherapy, because it is relevant to my personal interest I’ve played football for over 10 years and I’ve had my share of injuries that made me interested in the subject, that’s why I chose Physiotherapy. We were also the first to introduce Sport Science. None of our Universities had that. That allowed sportsmen, who can come here and not only study but also join in our clubs. We’re a definite presence in sport. Our students won their 7th European Championship in Female Handball this year We’re also a co-owner of MKS Lublin handball club a 21 time champion of Poland in handball. After signing the contract I learned that VPU offers a Sport Science programme which was very important to me. I feel that VPU truly offers a way to combine sport and education I study Sport Science, last year this year I only need to get my thesis in order I think that I would like to pursue a career in training in the future or become a teacher I happened to end up here, in Lublin, in the MKS club so it was only natural to take up studying at VPU too. Luckily, VPU makes it easy to combine sport and education We usually have two trainings a day We have it a little bit rough because of a lot of traveling but at VPU we can make up for it, arrange private sessions The best part is that our priority is the sport part we take our classes when we have the time for them VPU is very helpful with arranging that. Currently I’m studying Tourism & Hospitality at VPU. It’s hard to tell what’s going to happen next It’s nice to have a degree We always have an alternative path to go, not necessarily connected to sport. After Tourism & Hospitality we have a ton of options. So, focusing on Tourism now and I’ll see what happens. Vincent Pol University supports the passion for sport and allows the students to use gyms, aerobics class, training simulators on the spot. They can also use a closed-roof swimming pool and a team sport hall. Sport is very important for us here. When it comes to handball, which is our prised domain our successes are plentiful, including European Trophies On top of that among many other fields we specialise in are fighting sports, and there are a lot of those. Most importantly, it’s kick-boxing, which we’re very passionate about We were two time organisers of national kick-boxing championships And our students have had a lot of successes in that field. Also, one of our female kick-boxers had won a bronze medal in a European Championship But we have more than just kick-boxing when it comes to fighting sports Since recently we started building a boxing team. Box is also a part of Academic Championships of Europe Other than that, we have karate and a couple of other disciplines. but in kick-boxing and box, we have a lot of achievements including medals. This proves that we at VPU are not only into theory of sport We’re fans of the practical approach. On an international level no less. We just want people to combine the achievements with education or, for some students, we give them the tools to forge their own achievements in various sport disciplines, and maybe start them off with some successes. We realise a lot of European Union financed projects. We’re currently educating senior citizens and conduct classes for children, all that to improve the Lublin community not only for our own students. These programmes aren’t necessarily connected to our students but we use our educational and technological potential towards the citizens of Lublin. Additionally, VPU realises projects partially financed by the EU on basis of which, the students can apply for scholarships covering the tuition fee, attending additional courses, or completing extra practical trainings We’re also involved in the Erasmus+ programme which connects us to a network of over a 100 universities. Those are of course European universities but also a couple additional ones, partnering the programme, like in Turkey This is a very active cooperation. They all want to come to VPU. Also, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia But mostly these are Universities from southern Europe, notably Spanish. The University has a well equipped library with a lot of specialised literature. It collects over 22.000 volumes. It also has its own publishing house and printing press. The infrastructure is compatible with people with disabilities. Part of the campus are equipped with air conditioning and monitoring. Vincent Pol University publishes scientific journals in English. Scientific committee behind it is built out of professors and practitioners from all around the globe. A lot of the students chose their universities on the basis of the atmosphere It turns out that because of the Bologna System, which Poland is a part of a ranking of all the cities, in terms of how student-friendly they are, was made. It showed that Lublin was chosen to be the 8th best place in Europe for studying. It beat Barcelona in terms of student compatibility. We always try to mention that when meeting students from other continents. Lublin is a very safe city. The citizens of Lublin are very positive towards the students. Everyone is friendly, and students at VPU feel like at home. We have been educating international students for over a decade and we already have a system in place to work with them. System to help them in studying, in finding themselves in a completely different environment. Not only natural, but also cultural. After a very short time, students seem to assimilate into the campus. We had a great surprise this year, during our Open Day and a couple of our alumni from India actually travelled to visit. so that they can meet again with their friends, which included our staff, both educational and administrative. Therefore, I think that the right approach towards the students is crucial in explaining why do we have so many of international students here at VPU. I could go on and on about Vincent Pol University About what used to be, what is and what will be but in all honesty, it’s best to see it for yourself I invite all of you to come here and check if all I’ve said is really true.
