Amidst so many pigeons, rests a bird’s nest.. It’s 5ish in the morning, I feel like humming to all Chennai songs now. Basically I am super excited! My cab is already waiting. But I have to finish one last thing before leaving. We’ll have to iron this t-shirt for Radheyan so that he can wear it for shoot today. Let’s do this! Radheyan Hello! Whaddup? What’s the time now? About 5? (Lies. It was 5.30) Rain forests – Swetha’s hair : Close Enough? Hullo!
Whaddup Madras? *plop* *More Greetings* Today is the 22nd of August and.. What’s today? What’s today? 380th Madras Day! Hello guys my name is Radheyan, and I am Swetha. What are we going to be doing today? *More eggcitement* So today we’ll be going on a day long… Can we call it a tour? Yes.. We are going to roam around Madras.. *interrupts Radheyan’s rehearsed dialogue* Does this remind you of a song? *sings song*
Why god? -_- Today we are going to be going around Madras. The twist is that, you are going to run our day for us. We’ll be giving options for our Instagram poll, the poll will be open for fifteen minutes and the option with the highest vote will become our next destination. We’ll start our day with the sunrise itself, For which we’d put up a poll the previous night itself. *Flashback*
What’s our first stop for tomorrow? Let’s ask them itself? What’s the best place for Sunrise? North Chennai it’s N4 beach.. South I’d say Bessy The poll is up. And which one won? Our followers had given us a challenge. You wanna try it? What’s it about? You’ll have to pet stray dogs. He seems like such an innocent fellow. He is super cute! and silent too.. unlike you. What’s your best memory of the beach? Eating peanuts, chilling with the girlfriend.. all this has never been my kind of thing. I actually have a very interesting memory from childhood. I was about 4 years old.. I slightly went missing for a while.. for about two hours. Thinking it was my father, I was following another uncle. He also didn’t say anything. Just played along. That day in Marina, a small magic show was going on. I was holding my dad’s hand.. He’d left to greet a friend. I didn’t notice this. I was holding some other random uncle’s hand. After that, I held his hand and was walking along with him, he also followed without saying anything. Some time later, I looked at him while asking him to buy me something which is when I realised it’s a stranger. He had a big beard also. Nothing serious. Just almost pissed my pants. In my defence, I was just 4! Today is Madras day. What do you like the most about this place? I like the convenience we enjoy here. If we go to some other state, we won’t know the language. We won’t know what to speak. So people might not respond to us. In our Madras, we respond to everybody’s queries. They like it here. A lot of migrants come here for a living. They find it convenient here. Do you stay close to the beach? Yes yes. What do you like the most about it? The salty water! It provides for our livelihood. We make a living out of fishing. Happy Madras to everybody! Radheyan, what’s the next challenge? Eat prasadam at a temple. what are the options that we gave? Arupadai Veedu and Ashtalakshmi temple Which place won the result? Arupadai veedu temple. Let’s go What are you doing? I was just looking up about the temple. What about it? About how it got its name.. So technically in Tamil Nadu, there are six important places where people go to worship god Murugan. This temple is an experience of all the six places. To see all the six forms under one shrine. It’s very popular. If you see inside also the architecture will be similar to the six places. We couldn’t shoot inside but didn’t we notice that. Yeah yeah. The challenge was to go to the temple and eat prasadam but today they weren’t serving prasadam in the temple. So we smeared some holy ash on our forehead. (That’s how we pronounce it in my part of town!) We are gonna go have breakfast next. We don’t yet know the poll results yet? Check it. Ohh wait.! Karpagambal Mess it is then. Okay. Let’s go. People who live in and around Bessy will know this road for sure. A lot of film shoots happen here. An interesting fact about this road is.. We take a right towards the end. It is believed to be haunted. Technically this is that haunted blue cross road. This looks very very pretty. Like.. (?) A lot of people come during daytime for photo shoots.. Ohh.. they do? Nobody comes during the nighttime. It’s actually very spooky because half of the time, the streetlights would be off! Okay.. pan left now. Do you see pictures of gods there? Yeah.. It’s cause people say that ghosts might come haunt you, Somebody will ask you for a lift out of nowhere and all of that. So this is a superstitious belief that these pictures will keep you safe It actually is pretty scary cause of no street lights. When it’s dark, you won’t know who is standing where, what they are doing and all… So yeah.. We are standing right in front of Karpagambal mess. We just finished our breakfast. What have we ordered to eat? Ghee podi dosa, two of my friends had recommended it. Our tummies are full. Even though it was one dosa,It was too filling! Hotel looked really beautiful. It is a typical Hindu hotel, there were a lot of pictures of the deities and all.. Like there is no empty space on the wall, it was filled with religious pictures. That’s one of the reasons, we couldn’t shoot inside. How old is this hotel? It’s about like what? 67 years old! I borderline passed in my 12th grade math exam :’) 67 years? *oh shit* 66 years! Yeah okay.. Apparently Mr. Soundararajan founded it in 1980s. It gathered like so much crowd. Mylapore hotspot was Karpagambal mess. Like it used to be a landmark. Soo many years and it is as authentic! Food isn’t that old tho, don’t worry. According to poll results, where are we supposed to go? The question was what non – alcoholic drink should we be drinking? *Abhishtu* Kalathi rose milk won! Now you are saying you are feeling sleepy.. What if Rose milk wins the poll? Will you not have filter kaapi? *unnecessary audience buttering* I’ll have rosemilk and carry on with my tasks (P.s – he did have a few sips of kaapi) Sir, what’s your name sir? My name is Mani. Everybody is telling Kalathi rose milk is very popular… Kalathi is our family deity, Kalahasthi. Ohh..okay! It opened long back when there was no concept of rose milk. Rose milk only started in 1952. You make it here only or at home itself? We make it here only. We buy milk everyday.. With that we add essence that is already made and stored. There is no preservative. Okay.. Essence has no sugar. So you don’t have to add that also. You can also buy the essence bottle here. Woah! Actually good like you might feel a little weird when you have rose milk no? Like, it would be too strong or sweet but this is mild and nice. Have you ever had friends who’ve told you that there is nothing to do in Chennai? I have friends who don’t like Chennai. So, I don’t like them. I played it safe no? 😉 I’ve actually had a lot of friends telling me that there is nothing to do in Chennai. At one point even I used to think likewise. Turns out that there actually is and we are just lazy. We aren’t! You are.. You’ve lived here longer! When I say we I mean my friends and I.. *nonsensical argument* Buut we’ve come to the lighthouse! So, we’ll be climbing it.. Hopefully, if it’s open and they let us climb it. Unfortunately… Since Lighthouse was built on the same day as Madras Day, it’s closed for general public as they will be celebrating their 75th anniversary. I was just reading that apparently this is the only Light house in India.. with an elevator in it. Very necessary fact! Our next task is, spend half an hour without actually spending money… We’d put up two options – Anna Library and Connemara Library. According to votes, our poll results declare that.. Connemara it is! Okay.. So I went to a library after a very long time, And I felt super peaceful! First of all, I love the smell of old books okay? *struggles to remember what I was trying to say* So you are a bookworm? I G N O R E. And they have such an amazing collection of books.. It was so peaceful like if you all like reading then.. Everyone knows about Anna Library but not this one.. but it’s a brilliant place like I am very glad we did this today! Like this library is actually a century old and holds as a depository for century old publications.. Like actually some libraries don’t maintain old books well, But the sections we went to here, it was pretty well kept. 100% recommend! By the way, what book did you read? I read something about Bangalore, it was very Anti – Chennai. You are reading about Bangalore on Madras Day? Next stop… Spencer Plaza. Yess.. Oldest.. One of Chennai’s first malls. It started back in 1863 or something like that.. And you can actually feel it. You can feel the vintage vibes here.. it’s all rustic and gold and things like that. It’s pretty functional for a mall that old and it was one of the largest malls back then like now you have all these other malls.. I think I am having these slight nostalgic waves, that I might have been here during childhood. As a kid, I used to come here a lot. One such weekend, Dad and I were loitering around the mall. The security guard didn’t notice us and he locked the shutters. We had to then call the control room and inform them. Luckily somehow we managed to get out of here. That was one amazing incident… How long were you stuck in there for? Half an hour or something… it wasn’t a big deal. But then I was a kid. So I started crying and making a fuss. You would’ve even if you weren’t a kid. Actually the lift looks super cool.. Yeah!! And I am pretty sure everyone would’ve gone in it at least once. That is the nostalgic wave! The lift! The nostalgia isn’t over yet. We are gonna do one more thing. In this area itself it’s another place that’ll stir nostalgia. It’s a secret and we’ll reveal poll results there. The poll isn’t about the place itself but about something to do there. Right. See you there! Yesss. So we are here ! The nostalgia that we were talking about! A lot of you all had suggested that we try the butter popcorn here. We’ll be going and having one butter popcorn. Hullo, so we are at Sathyam and we finally got our butter popcorn.. which is totally worth the hype! Whoever suggested it, It’s one of my first times having the popcorn here You are excited coz it’s your first time. True! I also loved the ambience and the set up of the theatre. It’s perfect for a good movie watching experience. Back to you dear friends who’d suggested this. Guess who won the poll results for lunch. Samco! Yess! Thank you for helping us have non- veg.. and saving two desperate souls. Fully Filmy and SPI together have put up this .. amazing photo cut out for Madras Day! So proud! Super proud… Okay I am supper hungry!! Let’s go eat.. How is it? It’s actually good! When I was in school, every holiday we used to go to Devi theater. After that we’d go to Marina. That was childhood! Fun! Why should people buy Fully Filmy t-shirts? The designs are very unique. Nobody has tried designs like this! They are also very funny! Dialogues and words are funny. Cloth is also pure cotton! It’s very comfortable! A lot of people come here after watching our YouTube videos. They recognise us through the YouTube channel. Is that your subtle way of asking us to put out more videos? A lot of them keep asking us for Raunaq and if they can meet him. We have to tell them that it’s been awhile since we last met him itself. What’s your favourite design of ours? Morratu single? Nice… Straight out of Madras. My native place! So we’ve come to the end of our Madras Day Vlog. We are at Gannet. We are very very tired but.. we’ll not give up on desserts! I think this was very fun for me and Radheyan as well I am sure.. (Burps) He is too tired to speak. Nothing like that. The fans ([email protected]) would like the final byte to be from you! Anyway, if you liked this Vlog then please do Like, share and Subscribe to Fully Yt and do comment.. what you’d liked about the vlog or what you think we could’ve done Or other things we can try out otherwise.
