Welcome back to another cooking video, today
I’m going to show you how to make the Cucumber Rose, which is a beautifully simply little
garnish that you can make very quickly and just improve any dish you add it to.
So let’s get going – let’s do this! Start off by taking a cucumber and then you
just want to slice off the top just like so and then do another slice about 10 centimeters
in, that’s four inches, to make a cube of cucumber just like this.
Now you want to take your mandolin and you want to set it to 1.5 millimeters, that’s
one sixteenth inch – or ultra thin. Then you just drag your cucumber across just like
so creating ultra thin slices of cucumber on the bottom. It’s important that they’re
super thin like this so that they stick to each other when you put them close and also
so they’re ultra flexible and that’s what allows you to make this garnish.
Once you’ve sliced enough slices just place your cutting board lengthwise like this so
you’ve got enough runway and then start by taking a single slice of cucumber and laying
it on the board just like so. Then you place another one overlapping it by 50% and continue
doing that process all the way across until you reach the end of your cutting board.
Okay, there we go, I’ve reached the end. Now you’re going to start again and you
start rolling it up into a tight little package going forwards and just keep rolling it up
and picking up the cucumber slices. They should all stick to each other and be ultra flexible
and stay compact in one ball. Just keep going until you reach the end, and
then once you reach the end you just bring it back to the center and it should hold together
just like this. Then you just want to slice it with a very sharp knife, and very gently
so you don’t break it apart. Once you’ve cut it in half just separate
your half turn it around and there we go – cucumber rose done, Voilá!
I am just going to place this on a black plate so it looks a bit more presentable, and there
you go one simple garnish done. Alright, so this is the end of the video.
