AMONG INVENTORS, HE’S A LEGEND. CELEBRATED BY PRESIDENTS BUSH AND OBAMA. IN 1955. HE RELEASED THE BIRD UNIVERSAL MEDICAL RESPIRATOR. AN INFANT VENTILATOR YEARS LATER IS CREDITED WITH KEEPING BABIES ALIVE WHO WOULD HAVE LIKELY DIED OTHERWISE.
