Hi, I’m Evelyn Gallardo, the owner of the Discovery Beach House, along with my husband David. We’re here today at the Samui Restaurant in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. And our concierge extraordinaire, Sabrina. [MUSIC] This restaurant uses locally grown food here in the area, and the owner’s name is Angie. She’s from Thailand, so that’s pretty exciting, and her sister, Cherry, actually manages the restaurant while Angie is in New York running another restaurant. So, Cherry, moved here all the way from Thailand. Yeah, which is amazing. And, this is the only authentic Thai restaurant or only Thai restaurant in town. Well, I’m pretty excited because often times our guests ask us, “Well, were can we have some Thai food?” Everybody loves Thai food. So, up to now we really haven’t had a place to send them, so I’m really super excited about having authentic Thai restaurant to offer them here in Manual Antonio. They also 100% traditional Thai iced tea, which I love. It is so refreshing. Yes. They have a great, you know, selection of drinks, appetizers, desserts, main meals, so one by one, little by little, I want to try it all. So, if you want to know where to try Thai food in Manuel Antonio, this is the place. Shall we get started and order something? Yeah, let’s have a look at the menu. Yeah. We’re here for happy hour. Hey, Jake, can you come on in and help us out? Sure thing. Can you tell us about your happy hour? I sure can. As far as drinks go. We do bottomless Sangria and house wine. Nice, that’s a great bottomless Sangria. We think so and a bucket of beer. Six for the price of five. Awesome, awesome. You know I was looking on the menu and I actually had a great idea. There’s a Lemon Grass Light Bulb drink that looks really interesting. Can you tell us about that? I sure can. We muddle lemon grass because lemon grass because infuses simple syrup, and of course vodka is going to be the alcohol
with that one and lime juice. (Wow, so that’s going to…) I want that! So, um, healthy, you know which is your theme. More healthy cocktails. (Yeah, she’s always…) Healthy adult cocktails. Exactly and um I always tend to go for the spicy. I love spicy. Healthy, spicy. Well, we do have a Spicy Margarita, which I think would be right up your alley. Awesome, tell me. Traditional Spicy Margarita with Chilean infused simple syrup, makes it a little special. Awesome and I understand that it’s not a jalapeno chili that you use, it’s a Thai chili? That’s right, a Red Thai chili. (That’s amazing.) Oh, those are hot. Those are hotter than jalapenos. Bring it on! Okay, and we should order an appetizer. (Ooh yeah, so…) So, you’ve got the appetizer menu. Oops, I do. So, let’s see here. What are some of your most ordered and favorites? And, most authentic. Okay, yeah, okay for an authentic recommendation, I would point you to the Jeep Thai Steam Dumplings, or the Po Pia Tod Spring Rolls. And the Mummy Shrimp sounds good.
I know that looks good. That’s right, that’s another one, shrimp wrapped in pastry. Spring roll pastry. Ahh, that’s why it’s a Mummy Shrimp. Okay A great option for a completely vegan entrée is going to be the Red Curry. It comes with just traditional curry paste, plenty of vegetables, and we can do extra
vegetables, or tofu. Wow, that’s great. And, no substitution is going to be needed to make completely vegan. Wonderful, I think we could send guests there.
(I love curry.) Me too. So, what do you want to pick? I’m going to pick the dumplings. I’m not a vegetarian and I love dumplings. Those are my favorite things, Thai. You got it. Okay, thank you very much. (Of course.) We got the Lemon Grass Light Bulb. Wow check that out. I love that glass. And, the Chili Margarita. (Thank you.) Oh, it is actually light bulb. Oh my gosh. How pretty and it has some Lemon Grass in there. You’ve got a great idea. I just got a… how did you guess I had a great idea? Cheers girlfriend. And this one’s really yummy. This is delicious. I like the cute glass. Ooh, this is really good. It’s got an after, spicy bite, ooh, yummy. Your margarita. Yeah, ooh, I love this. This is so good. Your Chili Margarita, is this what you’re saying? Yeah, you want to try? Okay, want to try some of that. Yeah, I’m going to take them both. Okay. Umm, oh I like that. I love the hot stuff. That’s hot. See I like it spicy. Yum, I like it spicy. Here comes our food. Yummy. I have the Mummy Shrimp. And, the Jeep Thai. Ooh look at that. Okay. That looks so good. Well cheers. Yes, cheers. And, let’s dig in. Here’s to good Thai food. Oh my God! So, a lot of people love to see Scarlet Macaws and when we first got here there was a whole bunch of them. Now it’s a little later in the day and they’ve probably have found their place to rest for the rest of the night. But this a great place to maybe, hopefully spot your Scarlet Macaw if you haven’t been here yet. Right and there’s monkeys, other wild life that comes around, and nice ocean view. So, this is pretty perfect. Yeah, there’s a bunch of other little things that we were wrapped up in the food and everything, but there’s
so much else to know about this place. Ah, and the straws! These straws are made out of avocado pits. Sorry, I’m sorry. What’s so funny about avocado pits? Avacado seed sounds a lot better. Okay. But and that’s because Costa Rica is trying to get rid of all the straws and plastic. Yeah, plastics, and so, we’re. We’re eco-friendly. We’re an eco-friendly country with no army. Whoo hoo!
